2008 KY State Air Pistol and Rifle

2008 Kentucky State Air Pistol and Air Rifle Championships    

Date:  March 22, 2008 and March 29, 2008

Location: University of Kentucky, Barker Hall. If you need further directions, please use contact person below for additional information.

Time: First relay at 9:00 a.m. Because of use of electronic targets, air rifle and air pistol will be shot on the same relays. Infiltration of shooters as space is available will continue until all shooters have fired. Approximate relay times will be given to shooters after first relay of 12 shooters has been filled via preregistration. No shooters will be squadded after 12:00 noon unless the number of shooters indicates need to add additional time for relays to be done. Shoot off for top 8 for air rifle and air pistol 20 minutes following posting of results.   

Course Of Fire: Open air rifle and air pistol and junior air pistol, 60 shots in 105 minutes. Junior air rifle 40 shots in 55 minutes. The highest Kentucky resident finisher in each shoot off will be declared state champion.

Rules: All current NRA International Air Pistol and Air Rifle rules apply.  

Cost:  $15 Adult $5 Junior. Competitors must be a member of the NRA and it’s affiliated organization for their home state or the KYSRPA. Membership forms available at range.  

Awards: Annual Trophies given for high open, junior, and woman in pistol. For rifle, annual Trophy given for high open and high junior. Winners are eligible for multiple trophies!

2008 Kentucky State Air Rifle/Pistol Championship

The state championship was held in Lexington on March 22 and March 29, 2008.  An electronic  scoring  system, the only one in the state, was used  throughout the competition. 42 shooters attended. All of the previous state champions were there aiming to keep their trophies! \

In Air Rifle, last years’ champion Jim Johnson shot an impressive 577, 7 points higher than last year, and had a 3 point lead going into the finals. Sophie McDonald shot a fantastic  finals of 102.0 and edged Jim out by .4 of  a point! Sophie is a 19 year old from Paduccah.  It looks like there could be many good things headed her way the way she is shooting!  In the Junior  category, Sophie’s score  of 382 with her strong finals out shot last year’s junior champion Alivia Yeager who  had a  375 and Lindsey Wilson’s 376.

In Air Pistol, Alivia Yeager hung on to win the Women’s  category. In the Junior  category, Alivia  shot  the  same score she  shot  last  year,  but was  outgunned  by Adam  Mason who  edged out Martin Tindle to win the  Junior title. Ted  Malone had a commanding lead going into the finals and  finished with a 663.8. Thanks to  all who attended. This was the  most  people that shot  the state match  that I can recall.
