2007 NRA APPROVED LONG RANGE HIGH POWER RIFLE MATCHES
SPONSORED BY THE MEADE COUNTY SPORTSMEN’S CLUB
Dates: April 22, May 20, June 17
Location: Scott Mountain Range, Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Eligibility: Open to all competitive shooters.
Entry Fee: Adults = $25.00, Juniors = $10.00.
Make checks payable to the Meade County Sportsmen’s Club (MCSC).
Match proceeds support the KYSRPA and MCSC junior high power programs.
Entries: The range capacity is 50 shooters. Advanced entries must include name, complete address, telephone number, and payment of entry free for each individual. All advanced entries must reach the match coordinator by the last Tuesday before the match date. A self-addressed, stamped envelope must also be sent if the entry is to be acknowledged. The matches are held on a military installation and subject to cancellation by the Army with little notice. Without a telephone number, you may not be advised of any schedule changes.

Rules: These are NRA Approved matches, and unless modified by this program, current NRA rules will apply. Open bolt indicators are required (Rule 3.21). All competitors will wear eye and ear protection (Rules 3.19 & 3.20) in the pits. All competitors will wear hearing protection on the firing line where eye protection is also highly encouraged. Competitors will score, work in the target pits, and assist Range and Pit Officers as required. Using plug type scoring gauges is restricted to the Pit Officer.
Sighting Shots: Coaching during sighting shots is allowed to get the shooter on the target and all sighting shots must be recorded on the back of the score card. The shooter must tell the scorer when he is firing the first record shot and no sighting shots are allowed after the first record shot. Additional time may not be allowed for record shots if more than 5 sighting shots are fired.
Rifle: Any safe rifle. There will be an Any Rifle category (Rule 3.2) and a Service Rifle category (Rule 3.1, 3.1.1, or 3.1.2). Competitors must shoot the service rifle in both fired matches to be eligible for that aggregate award. The M1C, M1D, M21, and similar scoped service rifle systems are allowed in the any sight matches.
Ammunition: Any safe ammunition (Rule 3.17.B).
Challenges: An exact $3 per challenge which is refunded if the challenge is upheld.
Classification: The NRA classification system will be used. A current NRA Long Range classification card, temporary score book, or assigned classification is acceptable. If five or more unclassified competitors compete, they will be placed in a separate class, otherwise they will shoot as Masters. An unclassified competitor has not shot in a NRA Registered or Approved match within the past three years.
F-Class Category: F-Class Prone (Rule 5.6.1) is fired from the prone position and the rifle may be supported with a rear and/or front rest (Rule 5.3, 3.2). Entries for F-Class competition will be allowed to fill range capacity after all shooters entering regular competition have been accommodated. Whenever possible, F-Class shooters will pull targets for other F-Class shooters. F-Class awards will follow the same schedule as for regular competition but without classifications. Shooters registered in the F-Class category only compete against other F-Class shooters. Shooters can not shoot in both regular competition and F-Class competition during the same match.
Squadding: All matches will be squadded at the registration table which opens at 8:00 am eastern time. Advanced entries will be honored until 8:30 am. Since long range targets are not normal on this range, shooters will have to prepare their targets which takes time. Therefore, late arrivals may not have a target to shoot on.
600 yard Match Schedule: Firing will start at 9:00 am on April 23.
Match 1 – 600 yd. Slow fire, prone; unlimited sighters and 20 shots for record in 30 minutes. Any rifle, any sights, NRA Rule 3.7.c.
Match 2 – 600 yd. Slow fire, prone; two sighters and 20 shots for record 22 minutes. Any rifle, any sights, NRA Rule 3.7.c.
Match 3 – 600 yd. Slow fire, prone; two sighters and 20 shots for record 22 minutes. Any rifle, any sights, NRA Rule 3.7.c.
Match 4 – Aggregate of matches 1, 2, & 3.
1000 yard Match Schedule: Firing will start at 9:00 am on May 21, June 18, & July 16.
Match 1 – 1000 yd. Slow fire, prone; unlimited sighters and 20 shots for record in 30 minutes. Any rifle, metallic sights, NRA Rule 3.7(a)1 or 3.7(a)2.
Match 2 – 1000 yd. Slow fire, prone; unlimited sighters and 20 shots for record 30 minutes. Any rifle, any sights, NRA Rule 3.7.c.
Match 3 – Aggregate of matches 1 & 2.
Awards: Cash will be awarded for match and class winners in each match. If there are less than five competitors in a class, they will be grouped up into the next higher class. If there are nine or more competitors in a class, then a second place award will be given. If there are fourteen or more competitors in a class, then a third place award will be given. Junior competitors must pay the adult entry fee to be eligible for awards. Competitors must shoot the service rifle in both fired matches to be eligible for the service rifle aggregate award.
General: Bring your own food and water; there will be no lunch break. Competitors should car pool and park as many vehicles as possible in the 600/1000 yard line parking area. If vehicles interfere with the match, then all vehicles will be left at 600/1000 yards.

Directions: From Highway 31W, Dixie Highway, in Muldraugh enter the post through the Brandenburg Gate & continue to Frazier Rd, turn left onto Frazier Rd & go to the four way stop at Wilson Rd, go straight through the intersection and travel down Main Range Rd past French Range. Continue down Main Range Rd and go down a very steep hill, at the base of the hill turn left onto Porter River Rd. Follow Porter River Rd across the bridge to the first gate on the right, turn right and go up the steep hill on the gravel road.
Gate Procedures: All shooters must use the Brandenburg Gate to enter Fort Knox. Have a picture ID and match program ready at the gate. Tell the gate guards you are traveling to the rifle match at Scott Mountain Range and that you have one or more firearms. Bring only the firearms you plan to shoot and call the match coordinator prior to the clinic to have your name and address on the gate roster. Your vehicle may be searched and you may be asked for vehicle registration and proof of insurance papers. This happens to everyone entering the post whose vehicle is not registered on Fort Knox, not just people with firearms. It will be very helpful to be cooperative and polite when dealing with the guards. Unless on official law enforcement business, Fort Knox considers all peace officers as civilians and thus subject to all these requirements.
CAUTION: These matches are on a U.S. military installation and everyone is subject to all applicable federal laws and military regulations while on post. Concealed Carry Permits are not valid on federal installations and carrying concealed weapons of any kind on Ft. Knox is against federal law and military regulations. Competitors should arrive at Fort Knox early in order to process through the gate and arrive at the match promptly. All firearms must be unloaded and secured in an appropriate container. Ammunition must be stored in appropriate containers and kept separate from firearms.
